Budgeten är 15 miljoner euro för perioden 2011-2013. MEDIA Mundus är fortsättningen på det förberedande programmet MEDIA International som nu läggs ned. Tanken är att stöda projekt som görs i samarbete med länder utanför Europa. Målet är att öka och utveckla internationella samarbetsprojekt och genom detta höja kompetensnivån. Man vill också effektivera distributionen av europeisk film i resten av världen och vice versa.I Media Mundus andra ansökningsomgång delades 5 miljoner euro ut till aktiviteter som inträffar mellan 1 februari 2012 och 31 mars 2013. Man kunde söka med projekt som fokuserar på gemensam fortbildning av filmarbetare, ömsesidig marknadsföring av film och samarbete mellan biografnätverk. Sökande måste vara baserade i ett land som deltar i MEDIA-programmet och ha partners i tredje land. Totalt skall minst tre parter delta i projektet. Nästa ansökningsomgång publiceras under 2012. World Documentary Exchange: The goal is to create a structural base that will generate attention for European documentaries on the North American market and emerging markets such as Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and vice versa.
